Our Pastor and Staff

Grace and peace to you! I'm honored to be the pastor of this vital, growing, exciting and diverse congregation! I have served as CUMC's pastor since July, 2012, and it's my great joy to be a part of what God is doing here in Montgomery Village, MD.
I did my undergraduate work in English at Duke University, and got a law degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law, and practiced law for several years before finally saying "yes" to my call to ministry.  I graduated from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington DC, where I won awards for excellence in Biblical Interpretation and Ethics.  I have served on staff with Glen Mar UMC in Ellicott City, as Minister for Worship and Evangelism, and served as the Associate Pastor of Journey of Faith UMC in Waldorf, MD before coming to Montgomery County.
love to write, and I'm a contributor to the Women's Common English Study Bible, published in 2016. My passions in ministry center around preaching, worship and pastoral care. When I'm not working, I'm hanging out with my family (a great husband and two wonderful kids), trying to convince myself to go to the gym, or reading a great book.

I am delighted to be involved with the music ministry at Covenant United Methodist Church as Director of Music. I have  over 35 years experience as a choral music teacher in both the Sachem School District, NY and Montgomery County School System. In addition to directing the Chancel Choir at Covenant, and playing organ and piano, I am a school counselor at Hoover Middle School in Potomac and regularly accompany various choral groups and soloists.  I am married and between my husband and I, we have five children and five grandchildren! I believe that music ministers to the congregation in a very special way and I search for pieces in a variety of styles that will provide joyful, welcoming and Spirit-filled opportunities to praise and worship God.  Contact me at

In over 20 years that my husband, Steve, and I have been members
of Covenant Church, we and our daughters have been touched in so many ways by this wonderful church family. For a number of years as Youth Director, I was blessed with the chance to know and work with a great bunch of teenagers from our church community.  I am now the director or the Terrific Two's Ministry and enjoy every minute!

As an active member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Bethesda, I enjoy spending my working hours supporting another faith community. I love interacting with the Covenant members and Terrific Twos parents in many ways. Call or stop by the church office on Monday - Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

My husband and I have been members of Covenant for over 17 years.  We have an 11 year old son who has attended the Terrific Twos Program and Preschool, and a 25 year old daughter.  I have been blessed to be the nursery care provider for several years now.  I look forward to being in the nursery every Sunday and being a familiar face t o the children.  I also a assist in the Terrific Twos Program.  I am proud to be known as "Ms. Mary".

I attend Covenant UM Church with my husband and two sons .  I currently serve as the Director of the Covenant Preschool, and I attend Covenant UM Church with my husband and two sons.  I began my journey with the preschool while my two sons were students there.   After substitute teaching there, I became a teacher for eight years until becoming the director.   The director of the Terrific Twos Program and I work closely together to form a cohesive preschool family.  My favorite time of the day is greeting each child and family and seeing their smiling faces  when they arrive at school.  Being involved in their lives and teaching these little children is my passion.   I work diligently to give them the proper foundation to begin their educational journey.
I  love and am blessed for what I am able to do. It is important for me to help them develop a love for both school and learning, respect for others, and developing a sense of confidence in themselves.  I am blessed to watch the children grow and humbled when I see my alumni students and know that I am remembered.  Email Lisa here.

I missed my work once I retired from my job as Director of  Accounting at a Washington-based non-profit in 2006.  When I learned of a part-time opportunity at Covenant, I did not have to think long and hard about it.  The bookkeeper was relocating and Covenant needed a replacement. In September 2001, I joined the staff at Covenant and  and have been working there  there ever since on a volunteer basis to take care of the church's financial records.  I enjoy the work I do but what makes it very special is being part of the Covenant family as they carry out they mission to bring God's love and word to the community.
